THE COLDHAM HALL CHRONICLE NEWS & VIEWS FROM COLDHAM HALL SAILING CLUB CHRISTMAS PUDDING RACE 2001 April 2011 The club house extension, allowing for storage and changing facilities has been completed and the inside of the main club house looks so spacious now with a good sized seating area for socialising. Alan Sant, David Durrant and David Woolston formed the sub-committee who planned, arranged and did lots of work and should be congratulated on the great outcome. However, there were many others who generously gave lots of their time and expertise. Thank you to all members who attended the weekend work parties and achieved much general tidying up, maintenance and completion of the extension.
Many people have renewed their membership very promptly. Thank you. But if there are others who still wish to do so, the Honorary Secretary would be pleased to hear from you soon.
Ralph Roberts (former Commodore of the Wayfarer Association and now a member of CHSC) is thanked for his slide show and talk about his voyages in his Wayfarer going north from Scotland . Such a contrast to sailing on the Yare at Coldham!!
Following this, the Rigging out Supper at Surlingham Village Hall co-ordinated by John and Angie Wells, was much appreciated in the previous format with members providing the refreshments. Thank you to all for a successful evening.
Members are reminded about the rules evening has been arranged with Trevor LEWIS (ISAF International Judge, the RYA's Eastern Region Rules Adviser, and Chairman of the RYA's Racing Rules Committee). The evening will be informal, allowing for refreshments during the talk and a question and answer session. This is for all classes of helm, crew and class of boat sailed at Coldham Hall. The date is Tuesday 10 th May (7pm for 7.30 start) at the White Horse Public House (upstairs meeting room) in Trowse. It is a chance to hear a well respected expert on the subject and should be a good social evening; your support for this event would be much appreciated.
The sailing programme has already started on a beautiful Easter Sunday; 12 boats were out. The weekend April 30 th /1 st May is the open regatta. The forthcoming programme includes races for Cruisers on the down river events. Their participation would be appreciated.
The Sailing Appreciation course will run in June - 2 nd to 30 th ; Thursday evenings as usual. Posters have been circulated for advertising the event. Please encourage any friends and family who have an interest. It should be light enough by 19 th May to resume Thursday evening social sailing which will continue after the sailing appreciation course until the evenings shorten too much again. The club Wayfarers will be available for use for members to gain valuable experience.
Ian Shepherd advises that there are still some mid week memberships available for use of Mill Chic (club owned Yeoman) at £50 per season. Anyone interested should contact him on 01508 539153 for details.
Plans for the 60 th Anniversary celebrations are being finalised. The evening of Saturday 16 th July is the date to keep clear for a super barbeque, with a marquee and bands adjacent to the club house.
Wishing you good sailing and an enjoyable season. Judith Robertson Contact: 01603 712916 or jude_rob2000@yahoo.co.uk |
