THE COLDHAM HALL CHRONICLE
NEWS & VIEWS FROM COLDHAM HALL SAILING CLUB
Picture of sailing on the Yare - just to remind you all how nice it is!!
March 2012
We’ve had the Quiz and Chips night (17th February) which was won by the Frostbites!!. However, our teams did really well as we actually only had 23 people there, less than our maximum of 30. However, the Frostbites were very hospitable and welcoming and they have a great bar.
The Talk and Chips was well attended (17th March) to hear the last part Ralph Robert’s extraordinary trip north in his Wayfarer. Thank you once again Ralph
Alan Sant advises that the new quay heading at the front is well on the way to completion and it should be possible to return boats to their moorings after 9th April; probably a good idea to just check first.
Our next pre season event planned is an informal ‘in house’ Rules Evening, 19th April at Coldham Hall Tavern. Further details will be sent by e-mail; but this will be a useful evening to brush up on rules before the season. I expect you have also seen the spreadsheet Ian Barker has circulated to assist Officers of the Day in their race calculations.
The Rigging Out Supper (Saturday 21st April 7.30pm) is next. You will have been sent an invite by e-mail. It would be appreciated if you can respond to Sabina and make your proposal as to the food you would like to share. Mine’s a lemon meringue pie. Hope to see you there at Surlingham Parish Hall.
The Race season starts the next day on Sunday 22nd April with a Down River race (high water 13.32). However, there will also be the usual mid week social sailing, the day being dependent on the weather and personal commitments. There will be the Sailing Appreciation course in June – Thursday evenings and continuing Thursday sailing in the evening until the light goes. And a new series planned for this year is for Novice Sailors’ training, planned to bridge the gap for new sailors between the Sailing Appreciation and integration into more club events.
Further ahead is the Open Regatta. It is our turn to arrange the organisation this year. The Commodore, Derek Watson, has already put out a request for assistance both with administration and catering. This event is over two days 5th and 6th May. Many people taking part and helping with the organisation will make this a successful event as usual.
Just a timely reminder – please remember to renew your membership. Details have been sent by post by David Woolston.
