THE COLDHAM HALL CHRONICLE NEWS & VIEWS FROM COLDHAM HALL SAILING CLUB CHRISTMAS PUDDING RACE 2001 june 2011 Images were taken by Bill Clarke at our Open Regatta on April 30 th May 1 st Link to see a selection: www.coldhamhallsailingclub.co.uk/images/photoalbums/index.html . The day was windy and made for challenging sailing. Significant amongst the sailors were trophy winners: J Wells, J Bolton, K Priest, K Edwards and R Johnson. Members of the club also attended the Buckenham sailing club regatta. 13 boats raced and K Priest came 2 nd .
Arrangements for the 60 th Anniversary celebration has been finalised and you should have been sent invitations for Saturday 16 th July. Tickets sales are going well, but so that final numbers can be provided to the Tavern, it would help if your replies are received by 30 th June to Kevin Priest as per your invitation and reminder e-mail. The event will start at 6.30pm, with a drink on arrival and you will have the opportunity to view a display of photographic archive compiled especially for this event. A mouth-watering Barbecue, prepared by Coldham Hall Tavern, will follow together with an evening of uplifting musical entertainment provided by local band the He Hews and the Norwich Ukulele Society.
The sailing appreciation course has attracted 32 people this year, which is probably the maximum number that can be accommodated. Thursday evenings so far have been kind for this event and much enjoyed by the participants. There are two more sessions, with the last being 30 th June, with the usual buffet to conclude, after the sailing.
However, remember that Thursday evening social sailing will continue until the evenings shorten too much. 6/6.30pm start until say 8.30pm. This may be of particular interest to the sailing appreciation members who can gain further experience. Additionally Thursday 14 th July, 2 days before the 60 th Anniversary event, is planned to be a work party to prepare the dinghy park. Any assistance would be appreciated.
A further social sailing event has evolved on a weekday (nicknamed 'last of the summer wine'). Typically it takes place on a Wednesday or Thursday (but not exclusively) as those involved agree on the day depending on the weather forecast/commitments. Participants meet at say 10.30am for a sail downriver and depending on the wind, will stop at Buckenham or Cantley for refreshments. Generally it has been Yeomans involved and the number of participants will define the number of boats taken. However, I see no reason why there should not be other boats/cruisers. There are currently about half a dozen members and family etc who may take part. If there are any other members who would like to be involved, then please send me an e-mail (address at the bottom of the page) or phone and your name can be added to the contact list. It seems an idea that one person (not nominated yet) initiates the day/days proposed early in the week, by e-mail and others will have a chance to respond. Please let me have your views.
Future events: A club presence it planned at the Surlingham Village fete on 3 rd September and the Yare Navigation Race will take place 24 th September.
Lastly, some housekeeping. The wet mooring and the dinghy park have been arranged to best advantage. We have a Wayfarer named 'Tyreck' the owner of whom has not been identified. Can anyone shed any light on this?
