THE COLDHAM CHRONICLE

JANUARY 2008

A Very Happy New Year to you all! If 2007 was not so good, have a much better one, if it was good year, enjoy another, especially enjoy some good sailing.

Firstly an update on the Annual General Meeting held on the 5th December 2007.

A great turn out as usual but enhanced by so many wanting to show their appreciation to Geoff and Anne Pinder for all their service to the club over the past 15 years and more.

Don Baker commended all those who had worked to make this a successful season despite poor winds. He encouraged us to look to the future and how we can encourage new members to get involved in the life of the club, Another very successful sailing appreciation course had helped in this but few move on to competitive sailing. The possibility of sailing times other than scheduled racing with the safety boat available and perhaps some practice races, might help newcomers, novices and hopefully juniors learn the rules and gain some confidence plus some help from more experienced sailors. Hon Secs' tip for the year,( especially if in the vicinity of the start box.) “If you think the wind can't have done that! ..it probably has ! “

David Morley, the present but now retiring Race Officer after 4 years, reported on a successful sailing season, despite the poor winds. He pointed out that trophies had been won by 9 different members. There had been 14 helms at the most and 7 at minimum partaking in the regular racing.

Thank you David for all your service to the club.

The Hon Treasurer reported on another successful year, with an overall surplus of £645 and he gave his thanks to all the members who had helped to maintain the club's funds. The Social Events, the Sailing Appreciation Sessions, the Tea Fund and the YNR had all made significant contributions as usual. He proposed that the Subscriptions for the 2008 season be held at the 2007 levels, with no change to the dinghy park and mooring fees.

It was agreed that from now on members who join after September 1 st will only pay half subscriptions and those who join after Dec 1 st will pay no subscription until April.
