THE COLDHAM CHRONICLE
September 2008
Greetings All,
Today is, I'm told, the first day of Autumn. I'm not exactly sure what happened to the summer but at least we didn't have a drought!!! Great to see people on Sundays and Thursday evenings braving the wind, the rain and the becalming!
It certainly has been challenging.
Let's hope for better things next weekend when we have members participating in various events. Some folk are off to join in The Three Bs race from Buckenham sailing club, some are off to a Norfolk one design event and Matthew and John Ellis will be sailing a white boat on Barton broad as our representatives in the Ramuz trophy- good luck and thankyou!.
If you want to join folk going to the 3 Bs race David and Margaret Woolston are planning to travel up to Buckenham on Friday evening, mooring their boat there overnight, they plan to leave Coldham at about 5pm.
WE HAVE A BEAUTIFUL NEW CLUB FLAG! Our thanks to John Wells' wife Angie who has very kindly done such a wonderful job.
Congratulations are, we understand, due to three Coldham Hall Sailing Club members who competed in the Broadland Youth Regatta on 30th August 2008 at Oulton Broad, whilst representing other sailing clubs: full details of results to follow but we are aware that Arthur WELLS was competing for NBYC, Matt BATE represented Hickling and won all four Slow Handicap races and Katie ROLL for Beccles.
Special mention goes to Katie ROLL, representing Beccles in her Opie who was awarded the Lady Mayhew Trophy.
This is awarded for endeavour, to the competitor who, in the opinion of a
representative of the NSBA, and the Commodore of the host club (after consultation),
has applied greatest effort and has shown the spirit of the sport, determination and
fun, without necessarily achieving a top finish position.
Katie received her trophy from Nick ASHER, (470 World Champion)
Well done to you all !
It is nearly time for the YNR - this takes place on Saturday 20 th of September and there is a briefing dinner at Coldham Hall on the 19 th of September. Geoff could still do with volunteers to help with timing boats in and out at Reedham, so if you would like to help please contact him on 01508 498857
Gary has asked that all trophies won last year be returned by the end of September so that they can be prepared ready to be given again at the annual dinner.
The date for the annual dinner is Saturday November 22 nd , so please make sure that you have the date firmly in your diary. We are going once again to The Old Rectory at Crostwick which we so enjoyed last year.
There has been a suggestion from several members that we might have a Saturday racing programme. We do not want to split the Sunday sailors but could you let us know if you would be interested in participating in and or helping with officer and safety boat duties for a series taking place perhaps once a month on a Saturday morning. This would not start until next season, but would probably consist of six sets of two or three races between May and October. It is possible that one of these races each time could be for junior helms, i.e. under 18s. If you are interested please let us know by emailing the Hon Sec at altorro1@tiscali.co.uk - thanks.
The Royal Bank of Scotland haveonce again made a donation of £250 towards safety equipment for which we are very grateful.
Just a final note can we make sure that the club house does not get left open and unattended during races as several people do leave valuables in the club house while sailing.
Have a great rest of the season, and may the wind blow favourably!
Alan and Carrie (The Hon and the Sec.)
